Watching Sandhill Cranes Grow Up
Thursday May 26 - I saw this Sandhill Crane family for the first time
I did not have my usual camera with me - only the camera of my smartphone
The babies were so cute!
But, they kept laying down in the grass and falling asleep.
The parents were trying to demonstrate to the babies how they should catch their own food, but the babies seemed to be struggling to pay attention and learn.
Wednesday June 1 - I came prepared with my Olympus Camera this time.
I am stunned by how much the babies have grown and matured in just 6 days!
I took several pictures of the family.
Thursday June 2 - The family was not where I usually see them in the morning, but they were there in the afternoon!
Some of the afternoon pictures are shown below.
Thursday June 9 - The family was back in their usual morning location.
The morning pictures of them are posted below.
Thursday June 30 - I had not seen the Sandhill Cranes family for 3 weeks when I finally caught sight of them again as they crossed a parking lot that I pass on the way to my classroom. As usual, I am amazed at how much they have grown!
July 20 - I was happy to get some close-up views of the family near the lake.
July 13 - The sandhill family is still wandering around campus as a group - but the four members of the family are sometimes scattered a little bit more during food hunting.
July 27 - Today was the first time I got to observe some of the cranes getting into the water.
